At The Boat Equipment Shop, we’re as committed to your satisfaction as we are to providing top-quality sailing, SUP, and windsurfing gear. We understand that sometimes equipment needs to be returned or exchanged, and we’ve made the process as easy as navigating with a well-tuned sailboat.

Our Return Policy

You may return most items within 15 days of receiving your order for a full refund or exchange. To be eligible for a return:

  • Item must be unused and in the same condition as when you received it
  • Item must be in the original packaging with all tags attached
  • Proof of purchase is required

Non-Returnable Items

For safety and hygiene reasons, the following items cannot be returned:

  • Windsurf Harnesses (due to personal fitting requirements)
  • SUP Paddles with signs of use (to prevent water damage claims)
  • Custom-ordered sails from our Hobie Sails collection
  • Any items marked as “final sale”

How to Initiate a Return or Exchange

Follow these simple steps to navigate the return process:

Step 1: Contact Our Team

Step 2: Receive Return Authorization

Within 1-2 business days, we’ll email you a Return Authorization Number (RAN) and shipping instructions. Please do not send items back without this authorization.

Step 3: Package and Ship Your Return

Securely package the item(s) in the original packaging and include:

  • Copy of your order confirmation or packing slip
  • Return Authorization Number clearly visible on the outside of the package

Return Shipping: Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless the return is due to our error. We recommend using a trackable shipping service.

Step 4: Receive Your Refund or Exchange

Once we receive and inspect your return (typically within 5 business days of arrival at our warehouse), we’ll process your request:

Refund Processing Time: 3-5 business days after we approve your return

Refund Method: Refunds will be issued to your original payment method:

  • Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, JCB) refunds: 3-5 business days to appear on your statement
  • PayPal refunds: Typically processed within 24 hours

Note: Original shipping fees are non-refundable, except in cases of our error.

Exchange Information

For exchanges:

  • We’ll ship your replacement item once we receive and process your return
  • If the exchange item is of higher value, you’ll be charged the difference
  • If the exchange item is of lower value, we’ll refund the difference
  • Standard shipping rates apply for exchange shipments

Damaged or Incorrect Items

If you receive a damaged or incorrect item, please contact us immediately at [email protected] with photos of the damage or incorrect item. We’ll arrange for a replacement at no additional cost to you.
